Lyburn Organics

Sweet Corn
We have grown this crop for nearly 25 years, and it is not as easy as you might think, and to grow it organically is even more difficult. There is virtually no organic seed available, except some very old varieties that are out of date. We also get poor early vigour because of the absence of seed treatment, organic yeilds can be very disappointing, and as a result only a small acreage is being grown. Add to all this the fact that the birds enjoy the untreated seed, the fallow deer have to be fenced out, and if there is any thing left the badger will have it, the prospects for this crop organically are not good.
Squash
Is a member of the pumpkin family, and come in all manner of shapes, colours and sizes. Butternut is generally the most popular and well known squash, but is very difficult to grow in this country, as the summers are not hot enough. So we are growing Red Onion ( Uchi Kuri), Delicarta, and a few other bits and pieces. This is one of the most truly versatile vegetables we have ever grown, and to learn more about them, visit our pumpkin and squash web site.
Pumpkin.

There is an area of about 2 acres down to pumpkin. They are all of the culinary size, about 1-2 kgs.
