Lyburn Tours 2017
Dates for this year are
We do get a number of requests for May and June, but the weather is too unpredictable and there is not a lot to see in the fields.
All days are 6.30pm for 6.45 start.
Lyburn farm makes a variety of different handmade cheeses, all of which are made from our own cow’s milk. Although they are pressed, these artisan cheeses are not that close to cheddar cheese. They are, in general, a softer and a more continental type of cheese, with the exception of Old Winchester and Old Smales. The Lyburn Gold is where we start and details of this cheese and all the others can be found on the next page headed ‘Cheeses’.
The tours are all part of the Hampshire Food Festival
The itinerary is a tractor and trailer ride around the farm which takes approximately 1 1/2 hours and on the way we look at the issues of organic vegetables, visit the reservoir, the pumpkin fields, the cows, return to the farm to hear a bit about the cheese, and then sit down to a cheese supper, all for the price of £10, children half price. This can be a little bumpy so for those of you who think it might be a bit much, you are quite welcome to come, just for the supper. You will need to wear jeans and jackets, and you are entirely responsible for the weather, we never cancel due to rain, you can get wet, and on occasions very wet, you have been warned!
Each year we make a contribution to local charities and those we have supported in recent years are:
