April 2017

April arrives and then almost gone, cows all out to grass day and night. Lots of grass but by the15th now starting to look a little dry. Will be drilling maize this week, nice and easy seed bed, broad beans in flower and looking good. Just back from Emsworth Farmers Market, great day down there, everyone in holiday mood, lovely spot if you want a trip to the sea.

We will be exhibiting at the Farm Shop and Deli show this year, NEC Birmingham, stand E88, 24-26th April. Sales this year are up by about 10%, but we have plenty of cheese on hand, and need to get out and meet new trade customers North of the M4!!

Then at the end of the month we will be at the Artisan Cheese Fair, Melton Mowbray, 29-30th April. This is a great event for those that want to come and speak with up to 60 cheese makers from all over Britain.

Then of course there is the issue of Tesco trying to take over Booker. Tesco already has a strangle hold over a third of the grocery trade in Britain, and by taking over Booker they will have a strangle hold over literally thousands of small shops and business that use Booker for their day to day supplies. It would be a travesty if this is allowed to happen. If I were a small shop, I would be seeking an alternative and leave Tesco high and dry, even if it costs a bit more.
