December 2013

216-christmas-market

Challenging times, not the cheese market, nor Christmas. Having come through a dry autumn, it started to rain in December, and did not know when to stop. On the 23rd we had best part of 3 inches of rain in 24 hours. As day turned into night the water kept rising and completely flooded the farm yard. By morning I had to walk to work, the only way to get to the farm that morning, and we had to ferry everyone to work in the tractor.

That included James Brown our new head cheesemaker. James has taken over from Paul, who, along with his wife Hanna has set up Thimble Cheesemakers, and are now making their own cheese Little Ann. James is new to cheesemaking, but has 13 years of experience in the food industry and needed a change of direction and a new challenge.
