The Newt in Somerset
For those of you that have not visited the Newt, near Castle Cary, in Somerset, it is a most spectacular trip. It is expensive but worth every penny, however if you have an RHS card it is free on a Tuesday! Dont miss it.
As the heat continues to blaze down in July, the media have been contemplating the the success or otherwise of Mr UTurn’s Government, given he has been there 12 months.
He might claim to have had many successes, although I struggle to recall them. Maybe the trade deal with the US was a success, if allowing the US to send us 13,000tons of US beef, fed in feed lots can be called a success, in exchange for sending the US some cars. However, sadly it has been one disaster after another, mainly brought about by his own dishonesty.
Had his election manifesto in 2024, told the pensioners they were going to lose their winter heating allowance, they would have been better equipped to vote and make that decision, but he kept quiet and sprang it on them and got egg all over his face.
Had he outlined his thoughts on IHT and told the farming communities he was about to tax them into extinction, they could have then made the decision as to whether it was sensible or not, but he kept quiet and sprang it on them, and a UTurn that still has to happen.
Had he told the electorate that the were to be substantial changes to welfare benefits, those that it was going to affect could have made a decision and voted for another party, b yet more egg on his face, albeit this is something that needed to happen!
Had he lost some of those votes, he would have almost certainly have won the election but with a much reduced majority, as his biggest problem now is that his majority is far too large and the tail is now wagging the dog, and he has completely lost control, and they all think that they can walk on water.
The question now, is can he survive as leader. Well we hope he can as there is no one with the experience, and any standing to replace him, as we face another 4 Years of shambolic Government. If only he had been more honest at the election, he would have had a majority he could manage.
