Irrigation for the green beans
The heat is now causing serious problems for many of us on farms up and down the country. Our broad beans had to finish early as they ripened too quickly. The runner beans are not setting as they can’t cope with this very hot weather. The reds beans are worse than the white flowered varieties, but even they are not setting this year the flowers are dropping off before pollination. The courgettes are liking the hot weather but need a lot of water, the sweet corn are fine but again had lots of water. Inevitably the irrigation pumps that are powered by diesel engines are consuming vast quantities of very expensive fuel. The cows are back on winter rations as there is literally no grass. The weather people all always optimistic that it going to be a bitt cooler next week, but next week never comes, the last two weeks have been 30’c-32’c every day! Never mind it will be different next year!!
Here we go again, another round of musical chairs in parliament, meaning nothing will get done until October if at all. It seems that, of the 403 Labour MPs in the present parliament there is no one capable of replacing the lawyer from Holburn and St. Pancras. You might even ask why is he even leaving? It seems he has been bullied out by the Boy from Manchester, who is telling us all that, he will lead us to the promised land, wherever that is, probably Oldham!
Of course, the Lawyers greatest crime was to instigate the Labour Manifesto of 2 years ago, rightly or wrongly. But Manchester Boy has decided, along with some of his mates, including Tombstone Ed, that the leadership is not good enough and things have to change, not by very much mind you, as that Manifesto is going to stand. So, we will see some tinkering around the edges, and ‘hey presto’ we arrive at the ‘Promised Land’ or may be Oldham. In a few weeks’ time the music is going to stop, and there is going to be no chair for someone, and the talk in the tearoom it is going to be poor old Rachel from Accounts.
