Irrigation of freshly planed courgette.

As we break into the first week of May the absence of rain in Hampshire and Wiltshire is becoming more serious and the immediate prospect of rain, non existent. The cows have taken their grazing down to the floor and now going back onto winter rations. For the vegetables and maize not so serious as there is enough moisture in the seed bed to get the seed to germinate. We have just planted 40,000 courgette plants by hand and these are being irrigated and watered in. Never a dull moment!

The council elections have turned English politics up side down. The Conservatives tell us they are 6 months into a new 5 year plan, but it would help if we knew where it was heading. The Labour party have decided that the message sent to them, was they need to go faster and harder. Net result is that Nigel rocks up with a pint of beer in one hand, a grin on his face and cleans up, and with no past record to haunt him, is was all so easy. So we are in for a really exciting time politically.
Labour has a plan, but they have offended virtually everyone, except the train drivers.
The Tories don’t have a plan, yet!
Reform has a plan, but Nigel will not share it and he is all they have.
The Liberals have a plan, and it involves silly photo opportunities and jam scones.
The Greens have a plan and if it does not rain soon they will go slightly brown.
Britain deserves better than this!

Rachel from accounts is telling us all that interest rates are dropping and everything is fine. Well I have news for you Chancellor. Inflation last month may have dropped a bit, but we are seeing price rises of 3-7% coming through on our purchases, with the exception of fuel, not to mention the Chancellors NI and minimum wage increase. Given we employ approximately 30 during the summer, this will cost us thousands of pounds, to come straight off our bottom line. Now, in the last couple of days, we have a 0.25% cut in interest rates, which is great, but it does not sit comfortably with a substantial rise in inflation which is coming down the track.

City Steve, tells us this morning, that the trade deal with the US is wonderful. The US can send us 13,000 tonnes of beef and we are going to send them 13,000 tonnes! I am interested to know what Tombstone Ed thinks of this stupidity, and where it leaves his Net Zero.
