Our cows now starting to run short of grass due to the lack of rain.
Crops, in general look fine despite the very dry weather, mid May and we have just had something less that an inch of rain, and that is about all we have had and we need a lot more. Maize is looking fine and so is the organic sweetcorn. Its looking a bit yellow but hot weather on the way, and it will fly. Organic courgettes took a hit from the frost of 10 days ago, so we have lost some plants. Runner bean plugs have just arrived from Hoskings at Fentongollan, Cornwall. We have hardened them off on the barn and going to start planting 21st May, they will need water straight away to keep them going. Broad beans look fine, and we have had to give them some water to make sure they get going.
The cows have been the big losers, and grass is now very tight, the little bit of rain will help, but we have had a good cut of silage.
We cant possibly leave this month with out raising a glass to Sir David Attenbrough. We love his programs and watch them all. Straight down the line, no silly agendas, a very fine century Sir!
And think that changing your Prime Minister is going to change everything. All your problems are to disappear, into the ether and everything will be wonderful. You wish. As all the potential candidates fight like cats in a bag to replace the man that is going nowhere, the man they have worked alongside for months, if not years and in a flash they turn on him. The man from Manchester, does not even have a seat in parliament, may not even win a seat yet. May find himself on the street having abandoned Manchester and betrayed the electorate. The man from the NHS, who allegedly, probably the only cabinet member doing a half sensible job, has walked, one minute last autumn he is the PM’s best mate, and last week a knife in the back. Then there is tombstone Ed who thinks he might make the big come back, once a failure, always a failure, enough said. Then not to forget , ‘This is my best dress Angela’, and the rumour here, is that someone has bought her a brand new calculator, to help her when she goes shopping for her next new house or she could get Rachel from accounts to do the sums for her, may be not!
This is a most undefinable shambles. Britain, and in fact, the whole world needs leadership and there is no one out there!
